Chad Magendanz makes his new role as state representative official
Rep. Chad Magendanz (pronounced like Häagen-Dazs, the famous ice cream) was officially sworn in as state representative, position 2, for the 5th Legislative District on January 14. The 17-year resident of the 5th Legislative District was selected as the assistant ranking member on the House Education Committee. He will also serve as a member of the Higher Education and Technology and Economic Development committees.
“It is an honor to be trusted to represent the people of the Fifth Legislative District. Having been involved in education reforms for several years, I am looking forward to continuing the education reform and funding discussion in my exciting new role,” said Magendanz, R-Issaquah.
Magendanz has served in several capacities in education advocacy, including being elected president of the Issaquah School Board. His other local and statewide roles include Washington State School Directors' Association legislative committee member, National School Board Association legislative coordinator for Congressional District 8, and Washington Online Learning Advisory Committee member. In 2009, he was presented with the Washington State Parent Teacher Association's Outstanding Advocate award.
“I will remain focused on how we prepare our students for the careers our state's employers have to offer,” said Magendanz. “I will also be a strong advocate for smaller, leaner government that focuses on the priorities of government, creating less bureaucracy in the lives of private individuals. While working to ensure equal opportunity, we must remain free to choose our own paths, accept our own risks, and benefit from the rewards of our efforts. This is the American Dream.”
In Olympia, Magendanz can be reached at (360) 786-7876, and his e-mail address is chad.magendanz@leg.wa.gov. Letters can be sent to his office at: P.O. Box 40600, Olympia, WA 98504-0600. Constituents who would like to meet with Magendanz in Olympia should call to arrange a mutual agreeable time in advance of their visit.
“My door is always open, but I want to make sure when constituents arrive, I am not already scheduled to be in committee or on the House floor. A quick call to my office will ensure I am available and prepared to listen to those who come to Olympia to share their ideas,” Magendanz said.
The 2013 legislative session is scheduled to begin January 14 and will last 105 consecutive days.
