Dear Friends and Neighbors,
A controversial issue is back: The state and the federal governments are considering a toll on I-90 between I-5 and 405 to pay for the 520 bridge.
Once again, public comments are being sought by the Washington State Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. Between Oct. 7 and Nov. 6, you can make your voice heard, either by speaking in person at a public forum or by submitting your opinion online, via e-mail or mail.
Three meetings are scheduled on I-90 tolling:
- Bellevue: 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Bellevue College. Park in Lot 10 and follow signs to the cafeteria in Building Block C. Parking is free after 3 p.m. Please note: This meeting requires early sign-ups.
- Mercer Island: 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at Mercer Island High School
- Seattle: 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at the Northwest African American Museum
Except for the Bellevue meeting which requires early sign-ups, you can sign up to speak on a first-come, first-served basis at the meeting's start. You can also submit comments via e-mail to i90eiscomments@wsdot.wa.gov and through this web site: http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I90/CrossLakeWATolling/ScopingInformation.htm.
This is a really big issue for all of us. There's the impact to our district to consider, as well as the precedent of tolling interstate highways to pay for other state projects.
Finally, I'd like to invite you to the town hall meetings Rep. Jay Rodne and I are hosting this month. We'll fill you in on what issues we've been working on and what we expect from the upcoming legislative session, and we'd love to hear what's on your mind too.
