Magendanz statement on loss of federal education waiver

Rep. Chad Magendanz, R-Issaquah, the ranking Republican on the House Education Committee, commented today on news that the U.S. Department of Education has denied Washington's request for a continuation of its No Child Left Behind Act waiver. Among other penalties, the denial means school districts will lose control of nearly $40 million in federal education funds.

“It is beyond frustrating that politics and fear of performance accountability have combined to deny students this funding they so desperately need,” said Magendanz. “Think of what that $40 million could do for our schools and our kids. This could hardly come at worse time, when we're under a court order to fully fund basic education by 2018.”
